PRE REQUISITES

You must be registered with a Birmingham or Solihull GP.

We can only take on a limited number of runners in order to keep our group small and supportive. Attendance to the weekly group sessions is essential to retain group comradery and enable us to support you with your running technique and motivation.

Only those that we believe can help succeed will be accepted. This is the reason for our application system.

Once you have submitted your application, it will be reviewed by us and compared with all other applications.

If you are accepted, you will receive an email before the start date to confirm. This will include details of everything you’ll need for your first run.

This 6-week programme is for runners to gradually build up their running ability and mental health.

Our groups are small and sociable with everyone sharing the life-changing journey together.

There is a 6-week commitment in order to get real benefits from our runlationship and embed running and good mental health into your life.

EXACTLY WHAT WE’LL DO IN OUR GROUP SESSIONS, WEEK BY WEEK:

BEFORE STARTING

A member of Living Well will call you to complete a questionnaire and triage, setting you up to start your week 1 run.

You will be asked to complete the same questionnaire weekly so that we can monitor the impact of the programme on your mood over the 6 weeks.

After each run you’ll also be sent weekly “homework” videos to help improve your mental health using cognitive behavioural therapy techniques and embed mindfullness into your daily routine.

It’s all about getting out there, having fun and taking literal steps to being more mentally and physically. With us cheering you on all the way.

MIND

WEEK 1

Introduction to Cognitive behavioural Therapy and a mindfulness activity. Common cycles of depression and anxiety and how building awareness of our own cycles can help to improve our mood.

WEEK 2

The Fight, fight, or freeze response and relaxation techniques.

WEEK 3

Positive steps to wellbeing with a focus on the body and self-care. Balancing our activities – how different types of activities promote positive mentalwellbeing.

WEEK 4

Spotting thoughts – looking at the ways that our thinking can impact on how we feel.

WEEK 5

Challenging thoughts – how to put our thoughts into perspective.

WEEK 6

Maintaining progress – How to plan for the future and maintain the progress that we have made throughout the course.

BODY

Every week, you will meet to run for 1 hour to run and complete yoga-style mindfull stretches.

Within each run there will be breathing stops where your leader will be sharing interesting facts, thoughts and humour with you in the style of our Leafy Brum Running Tour.

Groups are limited to 12 so book on fast.
